Tourist Trophy TT

The Tourist Trophy (usually abbreviated to TT) is a motorcycle race that takes place, usually in the first week of June, on the road circuit of the Snaefell Mountain Course, a 60.720-kilometre (37.730 mi) circuit on the Isle of Man. In the early 1900s there was a race for cars, but this was later transferred to British territory.

Since its first edition (1907), many victims have been recorded among the riders who took part, due to a length of 60.7 km to be covered between houses, walls, lampposts and different weather conditions, all of which must be repeated for several laps depending on the category. As of 2015, the number of riders killed on the circuit has reached 143,[1] counting two deaths during the historical parade that precedes the race, to which are added a race official and two spectators.

The Tourist Trophy was valid as the British Grand Prix from the first edition of the MotoGP in 1949 until 1976, when it was excluded from the world calendar due to the excessive danger of the circuit. From 1977 to 1990 it was included in the Formula TT world championship calendar, a championship created specifically to give visibility to this race following its exclusion from the MotoGP.
